Extended-spectrum β-lactamase Enterobacteriaceae from patients in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: Antibiotic susceptibility and molecular approaches

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the Enterobacteriaceae strains among patients who suffering diarrhea, phenotypic and genotypic characterization of ESBL-producing isolates in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
 Methods: Stool samples were collected cultured different strains, PCR was done for detect ESBLs genes antibiotic susceptibility against antibiotics done.
 Results: The total number this 200 (114 males [57%] 86 females [43%]). categorized teenagers (21, 10.5%), adults (92, 46%), middle age (25, 12.5%) elderlies according age. Five found: Enterobacter cloaca (7, 3.5%), Escherichia coli (111, 55.5%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (75, 37.5%), Proteus mirabilis (6, 3.0%) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (1.0, 0.5%). P. absent all female under investigation. response isolated (E. coli, K. E. cloaca) ampicillin, cefotaxime, cefotaxime-clavulanate, ceftriaxone, cephalothin chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, nalidixic acid, streptomycin, tetracycline trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole highly resistant, while susceptible ampicillin sulbactam, ceftazidime, ceftazidime-clavulanate, imipenem. most frequent gene blaCTX-M (195) followed by blaTEM (149), blaSHV (73) blaOXA (3), highest pair same organism blaTEM+blaCTX-M (134) blaSHV+blaCTX-M (64), blaSHV+blaTEM (52) least pairs blaTEM+blaOXA (3) blaCTX-M+blaOXA (2). blaSHV+blaCTX-M+blaTEM found 44 organisms blaCTX-M+blaTEM+blaOXA two only. blaSHV+blaOXA, blaSHV+blaCTX-M+blaOXA, blaSHV+blaTEM+blaOXA blaCTX-M+blaTEM+blaOXA+blaSHV not present any investigation.
 Conclusion: In teenager group, there no contain gene, but pneumoniae. group infection with adults’ teenage more resist infection.

We show high rates of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae carriage among the staff and children at an orphanage in Bamako, Mali.
